With a sense of renewal in the spring, we may also want to think about ways to save our environment or at least to reduce any harm we may cause it.
The Environmental Protection Agency suggests we can help through actions we take at home, work and on the road. Here are just a few EPA tips:
One way to help at home is to compost food scraps as well as grass, straw, leaves and other natural waste to reduce the amount of trash that we put out each week. Creating or buying a compost bin that we can keep nearby would enable this activity, and after a while, you have organic matter you can use in a garden, flower bed or yard to aid the plants.
At work, we can help the environment by using recycled products as well as recycling products used. Recycle paper, drink containers, books, ink cartridges and newspaper. Also, companies can purchase cartridges made with recycled material for copy, fax and printers. The same is true with paper and many other products at the office.
On the road, the EPA suggests using renewable fuels to “reduce greenhouse gas emissions.” Also, people can carpool, walk or bicycle as well as use public transportation to reduce their emissions contributions.
Just a few small changes will enable us to reduce waste and improve the environment.
