Lawn and Garden Aids

For bird lovers, even novice birders, you can always add a bird feeder to your yard or one of those special hummingbird feeders. And if you’re not particularly knowledgeable about the types of birds you see, you can find books that identify major types with photographs and information about bird characteristics.

Folks who enjoy gardening can find any number of garden aids or tools to help with those lawn and garden tasks. For example, garden shoes stand out as one item that’s helpful – there’s nothing worse than messing up a good pair of shoes or wearing ones that aren’t comfortable for yard work.

Along with garden aids, some companies sell special tools – trowels and forks – designed for women’s hands. Not that the average woman can’t handle regular-sized tools, but some companies design tools for people with smaller builds as well as design tools to be ergonomic for people who have to deal with arthritis or other issues.

Items such as tillers, too, aid with the gardening chores.

Though hand tillers work the soil and cost significantly less, small electric or gas-operated tillers allow for deeper tilling as well as weeding between rows.

Don’t forget compost bins – some metal and some made from plastic – which allow for the reuse of old leaves, food scraps and other biodegradable items, which can later fertilize the flower beds or garden.

New lawn furniture, too, ranks among top late winter purchases. Many people want to prepare their patios, decks and yards for outdoor get-togethers by replacing worn and broken furniture or by changing their current patio and deck decor.

And in the spring, many people enjoy planting fruits, vegetables, flowers, shrubs and trees. Some items sell for less now as the spring approaches and become less available closer to the summer, so don’t wait too long to purchase those seeds or plants.

Though many people have several weeks or a couple of months before the warmer weather arrives, they still can find many items needed to prepare for outdoor activities, hobbies and fun.
